Bento Baon: Koinobori (Carp Streamer)

In honor of Children’s Day, today’s bento features “koinobori” or carp streamers.I learned that the carp is the chosen symbol for Children’s Day in Japan because they consider it “the most spirited fish, full of live, energy, and power to fight its way up rapidly-flowing streams. Because of its strength and determination to overcome all obstacles, the carp symbolizes¬†courage and the ability to attain high goals (Source).”¬†These traits are what the Japanese hope for their children to have.

I made three other Children’s Day-inspired bentos this week that can be found here, here, and here.

I made a regular onigiri wrapped in nori shaped like a carp finished with cheese for the eyes. There are also some snap peas that I made to resemble carps.
