Bento Baon: Cat Watching a Koinobori

Japan will be celebrating Children’s Day on Friday, May 5. Thus, I thought of creating Children’s Day-inspired bentos all throughout the week.

On this day, families in Japan raise and display carp-designed streamers, also known as koinobori. My bento features a cat curiously watching some koinobori. The carp streamers are made out of bell peppers with some cheese bits, resting on a bed of riced cauliflower. The little cat is made out of rice seasoned with shiso fumi furikake. Admittedly, this is not all I will be eating for lunch; I have some leftover chicken afritada in a separate container that is not very cute lol and is not bento-worthy.I’m looking forward to making more Children’s Day-inspired bentos this week.
